I really appreciate how you are trying to communicate with your constituents via your electronic June Newsletter. HOWEVER. Your attempt to give helpful advice is too late. You explain your views about "deposit insurance." We no longer care about "deposit insurance" as we have no money left to store in the bank, and little hope of seeing any extra money for years to come. Milk prices do not pay our operating costs and our daily living expenses are paid with borrowed money which is going to dry up within a few weeks. We make NO PROFIT! I've farmed 45 years and for the first time I'm considering getting a big loan to pay our operating expenses! How is that going to work? This has been going on more than 6 months now. We HAVE TO buy food on our credit cards! Yep! I feel that it will be IMPOSSIBLE to go any further into debt, because we will NEVER be able to pay it back! NEVER! I can no longer afford to even buy parts to repair my machinery! Dairy farmers are suffering a major depression! NOW! (If I had ANY profits, I would be spending like a drunken sailor and THAT would really stimulate the local economy!) We have been operating on a bare bones budget a long time and there is literally no longer any way to reduce spending. NO LONGER ANY WAY TO REDUCE SPENDING! We are at the end. You say "Plan for the future"? You say "plan" and "save" and "invest." This shows that you are out of touch with how bad our economy, at least dairy farming, has become. Please try to imagine yourself with these problems and adjust your actions accordingly. Get back in touch with the common person. I'm expecting to see more understanding advice appear in your July Newsletter. Thank you for reading this. My "Letter to the Editor" that I've sent to various places and people. It expresses my latest opinion on the health care disaster that is developing rapidly in the United States. I predicted the Bush disaster the very first time I ever heard that a son of a former president was running as a candidate; and apparently had support, even though he appeared to be incompetent, and I sent numerous warnings about the damage the Bush Administration would do to the American people over a period of many years, alienating some of my friends and relatives. I am now embracing the newest disaster I see on the near horizon. We all have police protection. We all have fire protection. We all NEED health protection. Health care for everyone is the sign of a civilized, modern nation. We are possibly the only technologically advanced, industrialized nation that does NOT provide health care for it's citizens. Consider how medieval it is to have health insurance financially connected to a persons job! Change is way overdue. I support Obama in his desire to devise a national system where all Americans enjoy the same protection against sickness or injury that they now have against fire or robbery. Universal health care's time has arrived. The majority of us literally cannot afford to wait any longer. If the future advancement of the country is a reasonable goal, people need to be recognized as valuable resources that must be protected and maintained by an affordable system guaranteed for everyone. 6/9/09 Message to Senator Feingold. We are dairy farmers. Milk prices are a DISASTER. We can not pay operating expenses. We have health insurance taken from our milk check. I recently raised our deductible to the maximum of $5,000 but the premiums are still so so high our next milk check may actually be a bill. HELP! I WANT to pay the government for a universal health care system that will cover everyone! I BELIEVE the time has come for a single payer system! Do the American people have to wait another 50 years to get universal health care? Why are there dozens of other countries with superior health care for THEIR citizens? Let's get 'er done! NOW! Trash our present system. Single payer, universal health care for everyone!
