GARBAGE/RECYCLING/COMPOSTING
- When
is the recycling center open? The recycling center
is open on Thursday’s from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday’s from 10 a.m. – 3
p.m.
- What
day are garbage/recycling pickup in the Village of Grantsburg
for Village residents? Garbage and recycling pickup is on Wednesday’s in the Village of Grantsburg. Allied Waste has been contracted for
this service. Allied Waste begins
their route at 6:00 a.m. so please make sure that your garbage/recycling
is placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
- What Holidays does Allied Waste recognize? Allied Waste recognizes
the following holidays: Independence Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day,
Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day. If the holiday falls on a Monday,
Tuesday or Wednesday the garbage pickup for that week will fall one day
later. Thanksgiving Day will not
affect our residential customers.
- Is the solid waste transfer station still in operation? The
solid waste transfer station located on Gary Street off of W. Benson Avenue
has recently reopened and is operated by Northwest Disposal. Their contact phone number is:
715-463-5550.
- How
do I dispose of leaves and brush?
The compost pile located at the transfer station site
off of W. Benson Avenue
is still open for disposal of leaves and brush only.
- What if I have an item, such as a TV, sofa or bed, or
other large item of trash to be picked up? Village residents can
now utilize a sticker system for larger items that they would like to have
picked up at the curb on Wednesday garbage pickup day. Large items such as sofas, loveseats,
mattresses and box springs or similar size items will require 7 stickers
to be picked up, recliners, overstuffed large chairs, coffee tables or
similar size items will require 5 stickers to be picked up and small
dining room chairs, ottomans, end tables, small TV’s or similar size items
will require 3 stickers to be picked up.
Stickers are available for sale at the Village Office and Darrell’s
Hardware at $2 per sticker
VOTING/ELECTIONS

How do I register to vote? See the

- Where is the voting location for the Village of Grantsburg? Village
residents vote at Village Hall at 316 S. Brad Street. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00
p.m. on Election Day.
- How
do I request an absentee ballot? The
request is made to the municipal clerk in writing by using the Application For Absentee Ballot (EB-121)
or by letter requesting an absentee ballot which provides substantially
the same information required on the application form. In either case, the
elector making the request must sign the “application.” (If a request is
made for more than one person residing at the same address, each person
must sign the request.
- How can I become an election inspector? Please
contact the Village Clerk at 463-2405.
Election inspectors must be 18 years of age or older, be able to
read and write the English language and be able to attend training as
needed. Serving as an election
inspector is a great way to become involved in your local government!
BUILDING PERMITS

Do I need a building permit? A Village
of Grantsburg Land Use Permit
is required on all new residential, commercial and accessory structures
including additions and alterations of all existing structures regardless of
age. Land Use Permit and Building Site Addresses are applied for at Village of Grantsburg, 316 S. Brad Street, Grantsburg,
Wisconsin 54840

A Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC)
Building Permit, Plan Review and Inspections
are required for all residential new one and two family dwellings and additions and alterations on one and two
family dwellings built since June 1, 1980.

BURNING PERMITS
- Do I need a burning permit in the Village of Grantsburg? Village
ordinance Sec. 5-2-9 Open Burning reads: (a) Opening Burning
Prohibited. No person, firm or
corporation shall build any outdoor fire within the corporate limits of
the Village
of Grantsburg
excepting as set forth in Subsection (b) of this Section. This prohibition on burning includes
burning of construction waste and debris at construction sites and the use
of burning barrels. (b) Exceptions 1) The open burning of grass, leaves and brush, and
the use of incinerators, is permitted only after 6:00 p.m.; this
Subsection is applicable only when
the ground is not completely snow covered; 2) Outdoor cooking over
a fire contained in a device or structure designed for such use is
permissible; 3) Controlled burning of grass or similar vegetation for
environmental management purposes, with the prior written approval of the
Fire Chief, may be permitted; this exception is not be used for the
burning of grass, leaves or other lawn debris not allowed under Subsection
(b)(1) above; 4) Ceremonial
bonfires, with prior written approval of the Fire Chief, may be permitted;
5) Small, controlled campfires within the confines of a campground are
permitted; 6) Other occasions of desirable outdoor burning not specified
by this Subsection, but not as an alternative to refuse removal or
disposal of which other methods are available, may be granted single
occasion approval as in Subsections 3) and 4) above. (c) Limited Permit Exception.
Any person or persons desiring to burn a large amount of wood,
grass, or other permissible combustible material may apply to the Fire
Chief of the Grantsburg Fire Department for a permit for such burning,
who, in his discretion, may grant such a permit without charge conditioned
upon the supervision of such burning by the said Fire Chief and his
appointee. Any person obtaining a
permit to burn shall follow t he instructions and directions prescribed by
said Fire Chief and shall permit said Fire Chief or his appointee to come
upon the property in order to exercise the supervisory function. Whenever approval and special permit are
granted by the Fire Chief under this Section, the permit may specify and
be conditioned on observance of safety restrictions and insurance
requirements set forth therein. (d)
Chief may Prohibit. The Fire
Chief is permitted to prohibit any or all bonfires and outdoor fires when
atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires
hazardous. The Fire Chief shall
give public notice of such order. (e)
Burning on Streets. No
materials may be burned upon any street, curb, gutter or sidewalk. (f) Liability. Any person utilizing and maintaining an
outdoor fire shall be responsible for any liability resulting from damage
caused by his fire.

TAXES

When
are Village tax bills sent out and where can I pay my taxes? Village tax bills are
sent around the third week in December. The full amount or the first installment of the
taxes is due by January 31st and can be paid to the Village Treasurer at 316 S. Brad Street, Grantsburg,
Wisconsin
54840.
The second half of taxes is due by
July 31st. This payment
is made to the Burnett County
Treasurer at the Burnett County Government
Center, 7410 County Road
K #101, Siren, WI 54872. They may be reached by calling 715- 349-2187.
WATER/SEWER UTILITY
- Can I have a private well in the Village of Grantsburg?

- When does the Village send water/sewer utility bills? The
Village sends water/sewer utility bills quarterly. This bill also contains the charge for
garbage/recycling pickup.
VILLAGE BOARD
·
When does the Village Board meet? The Village Board meets
the 2nd Monday of each month at the Village Hall located at 316 S. Brad Street, Grantsburg, Wisconsin. The
meeting times are at 5:00 p.m.
- How do I appear before the Village Board? Contact the Village Clerk at 463-2405 to be
placed on the agenda.
- When
is the Village caucus held? The Village
caucus is normally held in January of each year. Notices will be posted at the Village
Office and in the Burnett County Sentinel.
ANIMALS
·
Do I have to have my dog licensed in the Village? Yes, all dogs, 5
months of age and older, must be licensed in the Village of Grantsburg. An application is enclosed with your tax
statement. Property owners, please
remind your renters of this policy if you allow pets.
Dog License fees for 2009 are as
follows.
Males $10.00
Neutered Males $5.00
Females $10.00
Spayed Females $5.00
Presentation of evidence that
the dog is currently immunized against rabies is required. A $5 penalty will be added to the above
fees after April 1st. Please call the Village Office if you have questions. In addition, village ordinance requires that
all dogs MUST be leashed in the Village of Grantsburg. CLICK

How many dogs and cats can I have in the Village? Village Ordinance
Sec. 7-1-18 Limitation on Number of Cats and Dogs states that no person or
family shall own, harbor or keep in its possession more than three (3) dogs and
two (2) cats in any residential unit without the prior issuance of a multiple
dog license by the Village Board, except that a litter of pups or kittens or a
portion of the litter may be kept for not more that eight weeks from birth.
OPERATOR LICENSES
- How do I obtain an operator license (to serve alcohol)? An
application form is available by CLICKING HERE. Please complete the application form,
provide proof of completion of a responsible beverage service course and
provide the appropriate payment to the Village Office. All applications are reviewed by the
Grantsburg Police Department and then sent to the Village Board for
consideration of approval.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
- How
do I obtain a copy of a police report from the Grantsburg Police
Department? Please contact
the Grantsburg Police Department by calling 715-463-5103. Copies cost $2 per report for up to five
pages. Reports in excess of five
pages shall be .50 for each additional page. Requests for photographs require a fee
of $2 per print to cover the cost of processing. Additional charges for articles/pictures
on CD’s will apply. Please ask when
making your request.
