Chase Family Possible Leads & Research Strategies
To date, no real strong leads on Henry Chase's family.

1.  Edward Chase birth place in Baraboo (per Who Was Who of Hanover, IL) or Racine (where the family was living in 1850.  Not in Sauk County records.  Could pursue Racine County newspapers.

2.  Other Chases were in Sauk County about 1850 in the Reedsburg area, where our Chases and Coughrans later resided in the mid to late 1850s.  Could Henry and Jane have been visiting relatives at the time of Edward's birth?  Some other Sauk County Chase information, which may deserve additional research:
--  a Samuel H. Chase married Amanda Wheeler in Reedsburg in 1850
--  an H.A. Chase was a member of the Masonic Lodge in 1866 in Reedsburg
--  a Jennie Chase was a charter member of the local Fay Robinson DAR chapter
                                 in 1896

3.  Could the other Chases from Jo Daviess County be leads?   The August Chase from Hanover or the William H. Chase (born abt. 1809 in Vermont) who appears in the 1870 census?

Coughran Family Possible Leads & Research Strategies
1.  Assuming James is family, Samuel Coughran Sr. and Elizabeth Anderson likely emigrated to America in 1820 or before.  Immigration or naturalization records would be key finds.

2.  Early town records for Ferrisburg supposedly burned.  However, an LDS record give Samuel Jr's birth as North Ferrisburg.  Is this distinction important and could there be records elsewhere?

3.  If Sam Sr. drowned, the tragic cause of death likely made a paper at the time.

4.  I requested LDS IGI records on the family which I found indexed on-line.  One microfilm could not be released.  The other yielded nothing other than what we available on-line.  However, I am uncertain if I explored all available avenues with these records.

5.  Sam Jr. was initiated into the Masonic Lodge in 1875 in either Reedsburg or Sparta.

6.  A request for Sam Jr's death certificate has been made.

7.  A request for John Coughran's Civil War records has been made to the National Archives.
